Breakout
Second game in the 20 Games Challenge. An extension of Pong; it's Breakout. Looked up gameplay videos of Breakout on arcade, got a good idea about what it is and isn't. This game is not made to be a one-to-one recreation of the arcade game though, so, eh.
On to the feature list:
- Hit the ball with the paddle! Move the paddle with left & right arrow keys.
- Control the ball? Stay still and let the ball either bounce left or right. Or, hit the ball while moving the paddle to influence its direction!
- Break bricks! Gain points for breaking bricks! Darker bricks give more points but also increase the ball's speed.
- Pause! Un-pause! Press the Esc. key to pause the game. You can also restart a new game or reset the ball's position in case you ever feel like it.
- Was that a new personal best? I don't know. But your best score is saved and displayed in-game.
- You have 3 balls.
- Try hitting the ceiling?
- The max score is 960 by the way.
Calculating which tile/brick a collision happens to is a bit different from calculating which tile a collision happens in, so unfortunately there is a bug where sometimes you hit a brick, the ball bounces against it, but it doesn't register that it should be broken. Still, it's rather minor and doesn't affect the max score.
